Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I put a clear coat over the decals?

Yes.  The decals are made of vinyl, not paper.  This may even prolong the outdoor life.

2. The decal images on your website appear rough around the edges.  Is my decal going to look this way?

No, the images just appear that way on your monitor.  Your decal will be cut smooth unless the decal is designed that way.

3. How do I install the decal?

The decal is covered with a clear “application tape” that allows you to transfer the decal to the application surface.  To make sure the decal will stick to the application tape (and not the paper) apply pressure to the entire decal using a squeegee, credit card, plastic spatula or your finger.  Thoroughly clean the area where the decal is to be applied using a non oil based cleaner; warm soapy water works fine.  Allow time to dry.  You may wish to use rubbing alcohol on the application surface to make sure that it is cleaned of all chemicals.  Trim around the decal if necessary using scissors or an Exacto knife.  Make sure to use the decal itself to center or level the decal since the application tape may not be perfectly cut. Be careful not to cut the decal or YOURSELF!  Peel the paper backing off.  This is done easiest by placing the decal FACE DOWN on a flat surface.  Then peel the paper backing off making sure the decal sticks to the application tape that is on the front of the decal.  Position the decal where you would like to place it.  Be sure to level the DECAL since the application tape may not be level with the decal.  DO NOT use any pressure yet. If the decal is not level, centered, etc. you may reposition it if you have not applied pressure.  Once the decal is where you want it, apply pressure to all of the decal.  You may use a squeegee or your fingers.  A credit card, plastic spatula or something similar will work in place of a squeegee.  Now it is time to remove the application tape. Start at a corner and slowly pull back, PARALLEL to the surface.  DO NOT pull away from the surface.

4. How do I remove an existing decal?

For larger bubbles you may use a pin to pop them and then apply pressure.  For extra durability clear fingernail polish can be added to the corners of the decal.  This is highly recommended for decals that have small points (such as flames) or automotive (outdoor) decals.

5. How are the decals made?

The decals are made by a computer plotter that precisely cuts a design using a specialized software program.

6. How long can I expect the decals to last?

That depends on the color, type of vinyl, and how the decal is treated.  We use the same type of vinyl used by commercial sign shops.  Most of the vinyl we offer has a 5 year outdoor life, except for our special type vinyl (i.e. diamond plate, chrome, etc.).  We offer longer outdoor life & special vinyl as well.

7. Can I get a refund if I do not like the item?

No, since almost all decals are custom made to order.  The only exception is for decals damaged during shipping.  In this case you may exchange your decal for an IDENTICAL decal; no design, color or size changes allowed.  Pre-made items such as license plates, etc. can be exchanged or refunded.  For those pre-made items a refund will be provide, less a $3 restocking fee plus the original shipping fees.

8. How soon can I expect my order to arrive?

Orders are usually shipped the following day (except for holidays and weekends) via USPS Priority Mail.  Delivery time is usually 2-7 business days.  However, shipping time can vary depending on what part of the country, holidays, weather conditions, etc.

9. How can I tell what color I am looking for if I am trying to match something?

You can always take a look at our color chart by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.  Be aware that the may not match exact as the colors may vary from monitor to monitor.

10. Why is the color I want not an option, but listed in the color chart?

It is impossible for us to stock every color available as this is very costly.  If you would like a color not offered, ask us if we can get it.
